Bowen Therapy

The Bowen Technique is a powerful and innovative form of therapy which is completely non-invasive.

It has applications for pain relief, injury recovery, stress reduction, enhanced performance for sports and work, as well as for the maintenance of health and wellness. The Bowen Technique has been seen to accelerate pain relief, speed recovery from injury and illness, diminish the effects of some chronic illnesses, and reduce surgical recovery time.

The Bowen Technique is manual therapy that is easily administered and virtually pain-free in application. It is safe for all ages, from babies to the elderly because of the gentle nature of its application. Clients who are acutely sensitive from chronic or acute pain or inflammation welcome this non-intrusive aspect as a way of relieving their pain.

The Bowen Technique is based on the principle that our bodies have an inherent and continuous self-healing and self-correcting process that can be stimulated to return us to our previous healthy condition. What Bowen does, and does so well, is to provide the body with a powerful reminder of this relaxing state of recovery and the opportunity to “jump-start” this process of healing. Bowen can be so effective because it works in partnership with each person’s healing process, not in spite of it.

The treatment consists of series of precisely placed motions of the thumbs or fingers over tendons, muscles or nerves. The stimulus to relax and heal that Bowen gives the body enters the nervous system and travels to the brain through the highly sensitive pathways used for sensing motion and maintaining balance.

These neural connections bypass our conscious thought and voluntary muscle action so that the messages they send communicate more directly and powerfully their healing message.

Structural balance, muscle tone, blood flow, tissue drainage are all parts of the recuperative system that can be positively affected. This can be why Bowen can succeed in releasing a locked joint, muscle or non-responsive condition that has been repeatedly treated, trained and stretched with no lasting change.
