What To Expect With Bowen
Each Bowen treatment varies in time, an initial visit usually takes 30-60 minutes. A Bowen treatment is a very unique, gentle and non-invasive system of single, multiple, or opposing precisely located movements of muscles, tendons, nerves, and fascia performed on the body. A treatment may be done over light fitting clothing. The Bowen Practitioner performs a “move” or set of “moves”, known as a “procedure”. The Practitioner then steps out of the room for a minimum of two minutes to allow the body to begin to do the healing work form the inside out. These breaks are also known as “cooking time”, the message sent by the “moves”, is received by the body thereby assisting the body to change from “flight, fight, or survival” mode to a state of rest. It is in this state of rest that the healing begins. The fact is that most people sleep, but do not rest.
Frequently during and after a treatment patients experience a regained sense of relaxation, peacefulness, and a very distinct calming throughout the mind and body. Many attest that they are sensing a state of well being in their body they have often heard about. Others share that their bodies feel centered and balanced like never before. Some may feel absolutely no different than the moment they walked in the door, and as the night progresses they feel their bodies shifting and relaxing.
You will be asked to drink plenty of water after your treatment to continue the healing and to aid in the flushing of toxins. It is a good idea to have a light walk after your treatment, but absolutely no other therapeutic modalities, such as ice, heat, massage etc. If you are unsure if something you are doing is therapeutic please ask your practitioner.
The moves of Bowtech are light, simple and non-invasive, but they are very powerful. You may be asked to fill out a health history form, please know that it is of utmost importance to let your practitioner know of any previous injuries, or problems. Layers of conditions, symptoms, referred or compensatory pain begins to peel off, like the layers of an onion, until the root or core is uncovered and then addressed. It is because of this that some patients find themselves going through a healing process. This process may occur at anytime for 5 days following your treatment, it may last 1 hour or 2 days. Some people describe it as a shift to their body; others may experience pain and discomfort. If you have any concerns always call your practitioner. Some people find that an old injury may surface from years before, or a new pain that they haven’t experienced before. It is important to wait 5 days and let the energy finish it’s shifting before having another treatment.
